The main duty of the Parent Council is to represent the views of the parents at the school and we seek to do this by promoting good and clear lines of communication between parents and guardians (generally referred to as the Parent Forum) and the rest of the school community (Head Teacher, teachers, other staff members etc).
Membership of the parent council is made up of parent members from the Parent Forum and co-opted members. Any parent of a child at the school may volunteer to be a member of the Parent Council. The head-teacher of the school, whilst not a member of the Parent Council, has a right and a duty to attend or be represented at our Parent Council meetings.
At our Parent Council meetings we are able to raise ideas, suggestions, issues and concerns voiced by parents – and to bring these to the attention of Mr Gaiter (as Head Teacher of the Gordon Schools) and any other teacher who may be present at the meeting. Should you have any matters you would like raised please contact any member of the Parent Council or e-mail us at gordonschools.aca@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
The objectives of the Parent Council are:
- To work in partnership with the school and local community to create a welcoming school which is inclusive for all parents
- To promote partnership between the school, its pupils and all its parents
- To develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of the pupils
- To identify and represent the views of parents on the education provided by the school and other matters affecting the education and welfare of the pupils.

In order to promote communication we have agreed that your emails shall be replied to within one week during term time. Should the issue you raise be of a more complicated nature we will confirm receipt of your email and make the topic an agenda item for the next PC meeting – where we will have the opportunity to discuss the matter and, working with the school, decide on possible actions. Unless you have stated otherwise we would not intend to disclose which parent or guardian raised the issue but would simply add the matter to our Agenda.
Usually it should be possible to provide you with an answer after the next PC meeting. In some cases it may be necessary to consult other parties such as Aberdeenshire Council, bus companies, external agencies etc. In these cases we will keep you informed of the ongoing process.
Although we aim to provide you with a comprehensive answer as soon as possible it may be that some matters take longer than others to resolve. Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you be uncertain about how the issue you have raised is progressing.
